has anyone noticed the decline in the amount of small garden birds?

in our area there have been no sparrows for the last week. I have always had birds in the garden and feed them so they know there is a food source here. i think it is a bit eerie that there are no birds about, there are trees at the back of the garden and they are not even in them. we have contacted our local RSPB and they just say that they have obviously found another food source which i think is a strange answer, it is as if they think i’m a crackpot. could it be the atmosphere? the seasons are all out of sorts aswell……any ideas anyone/…

This is the second nesting season for a lot of birds. (At least in our area of SoCal). maybe your little ones are busy foraging for their young. Nuts and seed are good for the adult birds but they like to collect insects for their young.
Climate change could have a lot to do with the changing species in any area. Warming trends in the US would take a common tree species such as the beech and maple and reduce their range to northern areas such as Maine and southeastern Canada only. With global warming comes loss of habitats and extinction of some plant and animal species.
Too funny about the crackpot thing. I got an email from a neighbor that was concerned about the wildlife and thought that someone was poisoning everything that had access to his yard. Loony was the term that I used, but aren’t we all?
